About 'ouachita tigers'|Ouachita BlogAbout Campaign








Wednesday,               February               6,               2008               is               LSU's               official               signing               day               for               high               school               athletes.

Today,               National               Letters               of               Intent               will               be               signed               and               faxed               in               to               the               LSU               Athletics               Department               from               high               school               students               all               across               the               United               States               who               will               be               expressing               their               intent               to               play               football               with               LSU               in               the               fall               of               2008.

The               day               is               celebrated               with               an               event               downtown               at               the               Baton               Rouge               River               Center               called               the               "Bayou               Bash".

Bayou               Bash               is               hosted               by               the               Tiger               Gridiron               Club               and               started               in               1996.

The               first               bash               was               held               in               the               LSU               Fieldhouse               but               the               popularity               of               the               event               called               for               a               location               with               more               space.
               The               doors               at               the               River               Center               opened               at               8:30               am               to               the               public               who               had               purchased               advanced               tickets               for               $35               for               the               day.

Tickets               at               the               door               are               $45.00.

The               admission               price               covers               and               all-you-can-eat               lunch               that               is               served               by               area               restaurants               and               caterers,               all-you-can-drink               beer               courtesy               of               Mockler               Beverage               Company,               performances               by               the               LSU               Golden               Band               from               Tigerland,               speeches               by               current               LSU               football               players,               and               a               showing               of               a               video               of               the               2007               National               Championship               Game               Highlights.
               The               event               is               expected               to               draw               around               5,000               participants               which               were               already               lining               up               outside               the               River               Center               this               morning               at               7:30               am.

There               will               be               over               30               vendors               with               Tiger               gear               and               memorabilia               for               sale.
               The               last               event               of               the               day               will               start               at               5:00               pm               with               Coach               Les               Miles               taking               the               podium               for               his               speech,               recapping               the               success               of               the               last               football               season,               bringing               home               the               National               Championship               and               announcing               his               thoughts               on               the               new               signees               and               2008               season.
               The               atmosphere               is               electric               all               day               long               at               the               River               Center.

When               you               combine               thousands               of               LSU               fans,               plenty               of               Cajun               food,               beer               and               LSU               football               you               have               one               hell               of               a               party-all               day               long.
               The               Commitments:
               The               first               signee               came               through               right               before               he               doors               opened               this               morning.

Derrick               Bryant               was               the               first               to               get               his               letter               in               at               8:23               am.

Bryant               is               a               defensive               back               from               Peachtree               Ridge               High               School               and               from               Lawrenceville,               GA.

He               is               6'               tall               and               weighs               185               lbs.
               Cordian               Hagans,               also               from               Georgia,               was               the               second               signee               to               come               in               at               8:43               am.

Hagans,               6'5"               and               290               lbs.,               is               a               defensive               lineman               from               Northview               High               School.

He               is               from               Snellville,               GA.
               At               8:54               am,               Alex               Hurst's               letter               came               in.

Hurst,               from               Bartlett,               TN,               is               an               offensive               lineman,               also               6'5"               and               290               lbs.

from               Arlington               High               School.
               The               next               letter               came               from               the               first               in-state               signee,               P.J.

Lonergan               from               Rummel               High               School.

Lonergan               is               from               New               Orleans,               LA               and               plays               offensive               lineman,               6"4"               and               weighs               290               lbs.
               The               9               o'clock               hour               had               the               letters               rolling               in.

The               first               of               the               hour               came               from               Greg               Shaw               of               Hialeah,               FL,               offensive               lineman               from               Edward               Pace               High               School,               with               his               signed               letter               coming               through               at               9:12               am.

Shaw               is               6'5"               and               285               lbs.
               Shaw's               letter               was               followed               by               Ryan               Baker's               at               9:16               am.

Baker               is               also               from               Florida               and               attended               Bountstown               High               School.

Baker's               hometown               is               Grand               Ridge,               FL.

He               is               a               linebacker               and               stands               6'               tall,               weighing               210               lbs.
               DeAngelo               Benton's               letter               came               through               at               9:23               am.

Benton               is               a               wide               receiver               from               Hargrave               Military/Bastrop               High               School               in               Bastrop,               LA.

Benton               is               6'3"               and               weighs               205               lbs.
               At               9:31               am               Matt               Branch's               letter               arrived.

Branch               6'5",               240               lbs.

is               a               tight               end               from               Sterlington               High               School               in               Monroe,               LA.
               Thomas               Parsons'               letter               came               through               at               9:39               am.

Parsons               is               a               6'5"               offensive               lineman               from               Smithson               Valley               High               School.

He               is               from               Canyon               Lake,               TX.

He               weighs               272               lbs.
               Another               signee               from               Texas               came               through               at               9:47               am               from               Chancey               Aghayere.

Aghayere               comes               from               Garland               High               School,               Garland,               TX.

He               is               6'4",               243               lbs.

and               plays               defensive               lineman.
               Rockey               Duplessis               rounded               out               the               hour               with               his               letter               arriving               at               9:58               am.

Duplessis               is               from               Belle               Chase,               LA               and               played               defensive               back               at               Belle               Chase               High               School.

He               weighs               185               lbs               and               is               6'1".
               Another               defensive               back's               letter               came               through               at               10:15               am               from               Brandon               Taylor               from               Franklinton               High               School,               Franklinton,               LA.

Taylor               is               6'               and               weighs               178               lbs.
               Also               from               Franklinton               High               School,               Franklinton,               LA               is               Jhyryn               Taylor.

Jhyryn               is               a               wide               receiver               and               is               6'1"               and               180               lbs.

His               letter               trickled               in               at               10:19               am.
               Tyler               Edwards'               letter               arrived               at               10:27,               keeping               the               fax               machine               hot!

Edwards               played               at               Ouachita               Parish               High               School               and               is               from               Monroe,               LA.

He               is               6'3",               weighs               240               lbs.

and               plays               tight               end.
               At               10:35               am               a               letter               from               Clay               Spencer,               Parkview               Baptist,               Baton               Rouge,               LA               was               received.

Spencer               is               6'6",               285               lbs               and               plays               offensive               lineman.
               Jordan               Jefferson               was               the               next               signee               to               get               through               on               the               fax               line.

His               letter               came               through               at               10:41               am.

Jefferson               plays               quarterback               and               is               from               Destrehan               High               School,               St.

Rose,               LA.

He               is               6'4"               and               weighs               210.
               Another               commitment               from               Louisiana               player               came               through               at               10:48               am               from               Tim               Molten.

Molten               is               from               Montz,               LA               and               played               wide               receiver               at               Destrehan               High               School.

He               is               6'3"               and               weighs               in               at               190               lbs.
               At               10:55               am               a               letter               from               Kyle               Prater,               Kerrville,               TX               came               through.

Prater               is               6'1",               210               lbs.

and               played               linebacker               and               played               at               Tivy               High               School.
               Ryan               St.

Julian               was               the               first               to               commit               in               the               11:00               hour               with               his               letter               arriving               at               11:05               am.

St.

Julian               attended               Catholic               New               Iberia               High               School               and               is               from               St.

Martinville,               LA.

Julian               is               a               defensive               back,               weighs               170               and               is               6'1".
               The               20th               letter               of               commitment               came               from               Patrick               Johnson               of               Pompano               Beach,               FL               at               11:25               am.

He               is               a               defensive               back               from               Ely               High               School               and               is               6'1"               and               175               lbs.

White               High.
               A               total               of               26               high               school               players               have               declared               their               intent               in               playing               football               at               LSU               in               2008.

The               26th               student,               Kellen               Theriot               has               already               enrolled               in               classes.

He               is               from               Houston,               TX,               plays               linebacker               and               is               6'1".

Theriot               weighs               225               lbs.

and               went               to               Episcopal               High               School.

It               looks               to               be               another               good               season               for               Les               Miles               and               the               LSU               Tigers.
