Wednesday, February 6, 2008 is LSU's official signing day for high school athletes. Today, National Letters of Intent will be signed and faxed in to the LSU Athletics Department from high school students all across the United States who will be expressing their intent to play football with LSU in the fall of 2008. The day is celebrated with an event downtown at the Baton Rouge River Center called the "Bayou Bash". Bayou Bash is hosted by the Tiger Gridiron Club and started in 1996. The first bash was held in the LSU Fieldhouse but the popularity of the event called for a location with more space. The doors at the River Center opened at 8:30 am to the public who had purchased advanced tickets for $35 for the day. Tickets at the door are $45.00. The admission price covers and all-you-can-eat lunch that is served by area restaurants and caterers, all-you-can-drink beer courtesy of Mockler Beverage Company, performances by the LSU Golden Band from Tigerland, speeches by current LSU football players, and a showing of a video of the 2007 National Championship Game Highlights. The event is expected to draw around 5,000 participants which were already lining up outside the River Center this morning at 7:30 am. There will be over 30 vendors with Tiger gear and memorabilia for sale. The last event of the day will start at 5:00 pm with Coach Les Miles taking the podium for his speech, recapping the success of the last football season, bringing home the National Championship and announcing his thoughts on the new signees and 2008 season. The atmosphere is electric all day long at the River Center. When you combine thousands of LSU fans, plenty of Cajun food, beer and LSU football you have one hell of a party-all day long.
